KRULL (Germaine) — Germaine Krull Paris, Cinémathèque française – Musée du Cinéma, [1967]. Narrow in-8 booklet (approx. 22.5 × 15.5 cm), paperback, illustrated photographic cover, 16 pp., black-and-white photographic reproductions. A rare catalog of the retrospective exhibition dedicated to Germaine Krull at the Cinémathèque française, at the Palais de Chaillot. The bibliographic references indicate that the exhibition opened on February 10, 1967—which, incidentally, matches the handwritten note “Feb. 1967” on your cover. The booklet opens with a text by Henri Langlois, which situates Germaine Krull within the Parisian photography scene of the late 1920s and highlights the importance of her work for subsequent generations. In particular, he discusses the influence of her photographs from the *Métal* series, which are among the iconic images of the *Nouvelle Vision* movement in photography. The catalog includes six photographic reproductions, among them *Buddha of Pagan* and a spectacular composition from the *Métal* series—*Mouvement d’horlogerie*. This exhibition marks an important milestone in the rediscovery of Krull: after a long period spent in Southeast Asia, she returned to France in 1966, and the Cinémathèque Française dedicated this retrospective to her the following year, with the support of André Malraux. Germaine Krull (1897–1985), a key figure in avant-garde photography, developed a particularly innovative aesthetic as early as the 1920s, based on oblique framing, high-angle and low-angle shots, and the fragmentation of industrial structures. Her work spans photojournalism, nudes, architecture, portraiture, industrial photography, and, after the war, Asian monuments and statuary. Condition: good copy. A few slight creases and signs of wear on the cover; a small handwritten note “Feb. 1967” in pencil on the front cover and the original price written in pencil on one page. Interior is clean overall.
