The lot includes two accompanying pieces: a business card printed in his name in his capacity as president of the CDU, bearing the phrase “Mit freundlichen Empfehlungen,” as well as the original shipping envelope, machine‑franked and bearing the CDU emblem, postmarked in Bonn on May 14, 1971, addressed to Mr. Claude Armand, National Hospital, Queen Square, London. - Dimensions: 21.9 x 11 cm for the envelope; 10.4 x 14.8 cm for the photograph; 9.9 x 6.1 cm for the business card - Condition: Generally good condition for each item. Traces of red ink blotting on the envelope. See photos for details. - Number of pages: 4 pages - Kiesinger was an active member of the Nazi party from 1933 and held a position of responsibility in the Reich’s foreign propaganda broadcasting under Joachim von Ribbentrop. He was imprisoned from 1945 to 1948, and rebuilt his career within the post-war CDU until reaching the federal chancellery in 1966, leading a grand CDU-SPD coalition. The question of his personal antisemitism remains debated by historians: the 1966 publication of the NSDAP archives has been presented as supporting his own defense, while other episodes, such as the public slap he received from activist Beate Klarsfeld in 1968, testify to the opposition he faced during his lifetime.
