L'OR DU TEMPS. — Catalog No. 2. New Series, December 2001. Paris, L'Or du Temps Bookstore and Gallery, 25 rue de l'Échaudé, December 2001. Paperback, large 4° format, illustrated black cover, catalog richly illustrated in black and white. Catalog of the L'Or du Temps bookstore-gallery, then directed by Sébastien Peitbon, specializing in modern books, first editions, paintings, prints, and photographs, with a pronounced preference for Surrealism. The catalog brings together 233 items, constituting a particularly representative collection of the surrealist and avant-garde book market at the turn of the 21st century: first editions, illustrated books, and limited-edition publications. Notable authors and artists include Louis Aragon, Hans Arp, Antonin Artaud, and Tristan Tzara. For example, the catalog features Aragon’s *Feu de joie* with a drawing by Picasso (€230), *La Grande Gaîté* with two drawings by Yves Tanguy (€690), Hans Arp’s *Sciure de gamme* (€230), Artaud’s *L’Art et la Mort* with a frontispiece by Jean de Bosschère (€230), as well as Tristan Tzara’s *La Face intérieure* (€92). The last page also highlights the gallery’s publishing activities, featuring works by Guy Cabanel, Alain Joubert, Vincent Bounoure, Robert Lebel, Claude Tarnaud, Silbermann, and Benjamin Péret, accompanied notably by drawings by Mimi Parent, Camacho, Klapheck, Hallart, Lagarde, and Terrossian, as well as photographs by Gilles Ehrmann. This is an interesting document for the history of the Surrealist art market, as it provides bibliographic descriptions and, above all, the retail prices in 2001 for many first editions that are now highly sought after. The cover features a photograph of a glass structure accompanied by the phrase: “I watch you in amazement as you turn to glass.” The back cover reproduces, among others, covers by Leonora Carrington, Guy Cabanel, and Marcel Duchamp. Very good overall condition. A few very slight signs of handling on the cover; the interior is fresh and clean.
