La Sainte Bible De Jean-Frederic Ostervald 6eme édition - 1807

Hello, I would like to tell you here the story of this Bible, or at least what I could find. It is a Sainte Bible d’Ostervald, Sixth Edition, Henri Vincent, Lausanne 1807. This sixth edition of Jean-Frédéric Ostervald’s Bible, published by Henri Vincent in Lausanne, is of particular interest both for its antiquity and for the provenance history associated with it. According to research conducted around this copy, this Bible would have belonged to Rose de Chambrier, née du Bois de Dunilac, wife of Guillaume de Chambrier. The couple is notably associated with the history of the Château de Cormondrèche, which they would have helped transform. The history of this work seems then to be linked to the Perregaux family, the heirs of Rose de Chambrier, a note written on the first pages. The Perregaux family: a lineage at the heart of French history Jean-Frédéric de Perregaux (1744-1808), a banker of Swiss origin, was a major figure in French finance. He participated in the creation of the Banque de France and became its first regent. He was also an important player in financial life during the French Revolution and under Napoleon Bonaparte. His son, Alphonse de Perregaux (1785-1841), continued the family career in finance and public life. He became, among other titles, an Empire count, senator and peer of France. The Perregaux family also has an indirect link to literary history: a descendant of this family was connected to Alphonsine Plessis, who entered posterity under the name Marie Duplessis, who inspired The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas fils and Verdi’s opera La Traviata. Another mention associated with this Bible would evoke a donation in reward to a certain François Payot. The exact circumstances of this transmission remain unknown to this day and would deserve further research. Beyond its religious function, this copy thus potentially testifies to several generations of transmission and links between Swiss and French families. The family provenance mentioned in this description rests on my personal research and remains to be fully confirmed by independent historical documents.
