Large Antique Marquise Ring with 2.30 Old Cut Diamonds in Gold, c. 1890

The special fascination of historical diamonds is their individual character. No two stones are the same: Color, proportion and brilliance are different for every stone. Created at a time when diamond cuts were not yet automated, it was the cutter's task to determine the perfect dimensions for each diamond. This ring brings us closer to 21 such diamonds with individuality and history. The diamonds were combined in the years around 1890 to create this ring in the classic marquise shape. 19 of them are in the so-called "old mine cut", which means that they are cut in a slight cushion shape; two smaller diamonds sparkle in a rose cut. In addition, all of the old-cut diamonds used here have more body than modern brilliant-cut diamonds, meaning they are thicker, which makes them particularly sparkling. The approximately 2.30 ct diamonds are set à jour in the precious metal, i.e. the settings are open at the back to allow plenty of light to reach them. The showpiece is flat, making the large ring in high-carat yellow gold comfortable to wear. The ring, which came to us from Vienna, is in first-class condition and impresses with its magnificent setting in a fine pavé setting. A detailed certificate from the Gemmologisches Labor Austria is included.
