Magnificent, sculptural pieces of gold jewelry captured the hearts of women around 1840. From the small pieces of jewelry made of gold filigree that had been worn from 1820 onwards, the fashion developed into voluminous pieces. The hardships of the Napoleonic Wars were over - the era of bourgeois prosperity had arrived with early industrialization. Precious jewellery was no longer only worn at court. Biedermeier jewelry found motifs particularly in the world of plants and the Baroque and Rococo eras, as a contrast to the classicism of the Napoleonic era. This brooch from around 1845 also shows this characteristic design language. It consists of a surrounding ribbon with a floral arrangement of finely crafted leaves and flowers in the center. A gold ball is suspended from the design. The workmanship in beaten gold, so-called "foam gold", makes the brooch a typical child of its time, as does the suspension. Brooches like this were among the popular jewelry designs of the early Victorian period and were produced in different variations.
