Great White Shark - Upper Left A2 Tooth - 46.5 mm, — This lot presents a magnificent natural, non-fossilized tooth from the Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias), sourced from the waters of the Caribbean Sea. Morphological analysis allows precise attribution to the position A2 of the upper left jaw, i.e., the second anterior tooth. It is a zoological artifact of notable interest, capturing the biological essence and the iconic power of the world's largest predatory fish in excellent preservation. The specimen exhibits the classic form of the upper teeth of this species: a triangular crown, wide and compressed, a true biological blade designed to cut with maximum efficiency. The surface, coated by a smooth enamel-like layer and naturally lustrous, shows an ivory white coloration with delicate cream tones, free of significant alterations. The sharp margins are a detail of particular value: they preserve a complete and sharp serration, with robust serrations at the base that progressively refine toward the tip, which is also perfectly intact. This dental architecture results from evolution aimed at maximizing incising and tearing capability. The root, wide and robust, contrasts with the crown by its more opaque and porous surface, a distinctive sign of anchorage to the cartilage tissue of the jaw. Small natural vascular foramina can be noticed, testimony to the tooth's nourishment system during its life. These anatomical details are not imperfections but confirm the authenticity of the specimen and enhance its scientific value. Unlike mammals, sharks possess a polyphyodont dentition system, a kind of biological “conveyor belt” in which new rows of teeth continuously grow to replace those lost or worn. In addition to its scientific value, the great white tooth carries a deep cultural aura. For centuries, in many Pacific cultures, sharks were not just animals but totemic entities, symbols of strength, courage, and divine power. Their teeth were incorporated into ceremonial weapons, jewelry, and amulets, representing social status and a connection with the sea’s spiritual world. This perception has partly been supplanted by the modern image of the shark as a ruthless predator, a myth amplified by popular culture and cinema. Owning a specimen of such quality means safeguarding a fragment of oceanic natural history. Its notable dimensions, the perfection of the serrations, and overall integrity make it an ideal piece to enrich a zoological collection, a Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities), or to be displayed as a sculptural object of rare elegance in a design environment or a professional study. It is a silent and powerful tribute to one of the planet’s most fascinating and misunderstood creatures.
