LARGE MANGBETU BARKCLOTH SAMPLE MOUNTED ON PANEL

Ca. 19th - 20th century AD > A large Mangbetu barkcloth panel decorated with repeated dark geometric motifs, including triangles and angular linear bands. The rectangular cloth is mounted within a supporting frame or panel. Mangbetu barkcloth was made by working tree bark into a flexible sheet and could be worn as a wrapper.
