Circa 1890. Cristallerie Legras &Cie Montjoye à St Denis, France. Magnificent, extremely rare blown glass vase LEGRAS, model “Auteuil” an elegant Art Nouveau creation directly listed under No. 0727 in the reference work devoted to the finest Legras / Montjoye productions. On a sumptuous emerald green glass background, almost luminous when light passes through it, unfolds a superb dahlia with petals in pale pink and mauve, accompanied by its bud ready to bloom. Its long sinuous stem and delicately shaded foliage seem to climb naturally along the vase, while fine golden herbs, light as twigs, animate the background. A flower captured at its full bloom, as if suspended forever in the light of the glass. All the richness of this piece is also revealed in its upper part: a remarkable gilded ornamental frieze, of such finesse as to evoke true lace, extends all around the collar in arabesques, scrolls and floral medallions. Small enamelled dahlias bloom at the heart of this gold architecture, creating a marvelous dialogue between the delicacy of the flower and the richness of the decoration. Its beautiful diabolo shape, slender and slightly pinched at the waist, rests on a wide circular foot before flaring gently toward the opening, giving the whole an exceptionally elegant silhouette. The decor blends with great refinement enamel polychrome, gilded highlights and silkscreen, in a delicate harmony of emerald green, pink, mauve and gold. With its height of 268 mm, this vase stands as a very fine example of floral poetry and decorative refinement of Verreries Legras at the Belle Époque. Quite a rare proof as it was produced in very small quantities. Model “Auteuil”, reference 0727 – dahlia décor – perfectly authenticated and listed in the reference work LEGRAS/ MONTJOYE Sublime vase in very good condition for this specimen aged more than 130 years! Note only two extremely small irregularities, one at the edge of the collar and the other at the level of the foot, which may correspond to minor old manufacturing defects or very slight signs of time. Extremely discreet and practically imperceptible once the vase is placed, they in no way detract from the beauty or the elegance of this magnificent Art Nouveau glassware, full of charm and poetry, uniting in a single creation the fragility of a flower, the light of the glass and all the refinement of the Belle Époque.
