Leonard Starr - 1 Original page - Mary Perkins

Original board in India ink on Bristol board, created by Leonard Starr for the Sunday comic strip of July 21, 1974 in the series « Mary Perkins, On Stage ». Note: The board consists of two parts bound together by adhesive on the back. The upper part is slightly insolated. A stat was used for the penultimate panel. Leonard Starr (1925 - 2015) attended the High School of Music and Art, then the Pratt Institute in New York. At the same time, from 1942, he contributed to various series such as The Sub-Mariner, Human Torch and Don Winslow. He then turned to a career in advertising. In 1957, for the Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, he created On Stage, later renamed Mary Perkins, On Stage, a series set in the show business world featuring Mary Perkins, a beautiful and charming actress, which he drew until 1979. Leonard Starr also worked for the European market, notably drawing Cannonball Carmody, a series published in the pages of the weekly Tintin. Leonard Starr is among the graphic heirs of Alex Raymond. Both quick and efficient, his line reveals great elegance. As a writer, he also shows a fertile imagination, often employing a salutary second degree. Throughout his career, Leonard Starr received several prizes and honors for his Mary Perkins, On Stage series, including the award for best continuing comic strip in 1961 and 1964 and the Reuben Award in 1966… (Source: World Dictionary of Comics) Only the original board is sold.
