JOULLIETTON (Joseph) History of the Marche and the country of Combraille. Guéret, at Betoulle, 1814-1815. 2 volumes in 1 volume octavo (21 x 13 cm), half-calf (binding of the period), smooth decorated spine, handwritten annotations on the upper guard and in the margins + one heavily annotated page in volume II, [4]-xiv-415; 312-[34] pages (complete). Pages 55 to 58 of volume I missing, small gap without affecting the text from pages 91 to 220 in volume II, corners worn, boards and hinges rubbed. Reasonable condition. Original edition. Written by the Creuse-born physician and politician Joseph Joullietton (1763–1829), the work constitutes the first substantial attempt to write a comprehensive history of what today forms the department of the Creuse. The author traces the geography, origins, fauna, flora, and major political events of the Combraille and the province of the Marche, from antiquity to the author's contemporary period. Good annotated copy and relatively uncommon.
