If you look at old family photos and immerse yourself in the celebrations and festivities of your own family in days gone by, you will notice that hardly any other piece of jewellery has been seen as often over the past 70 years as the necklace made from Japanese cultured pearls. Whether as a long strand held by a pearl-studded clasp, a double-row necklace or a three-row choker, there was hardly a lady who didn't like to adorn herself with these shimmering sea treasures. Combined with excitingly patterned dresses and highly tousled hair, a good pearl necklace of any kind was simply a must! Here we see such a piece made from 135 Japanese Akoya pearls. The pearls are uniform with a diameter of around 7.1 mm and shimmer in a creamy white colour with a slight pink overlay. They are very round throughout and have a good to very good, smooth surface with few surface features. Only the lustre of the pearls, their lustre, is a little inconsistent. In addition to pearls with a very good lustre, there are also pearls with a medium lustre. The advantage of such a long necklace - this one is more than a metre long! - is its flexibility in terms of wearing options. It can be worn simply around the neck, as a sweeping chained model or as a two- or three-strand draped piece of jewellery. The beads can even be looped around the waist or used as an opulent bracelet. The pretty white gold clasp is set with diamonds; its design language with differently textured surfaces reveals that the necklace was created around 1970. The clasp is from the range of the wholesaler Wilhelm Müller from Schwäbisch Gmünd, so we assume that the necklace was made in Germany. The chain came to us here in Berlin. We have had the chain re-knotted.
