Long-Legged Spider Crab Carapace - Phalangipus hystrix...

Phalangipus hystrix – Long-Legged Spider Crab – Olango Island, Philippines IMPORTANT – SPECIMEN SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS The unpacked specimen shown in the first photographs is not the exact specimen you will receive. It was unpacked as a representative sample in order to photograph the species clearly and show its details, proportions and appearance. The actual specimen offered in this listing is the one shown inside the blue box in the final photographs. It is slightly larger than the unpacked specimen shown for reference. Our supplier in the Philippines professionally packs each specimen individually to protect its extremely delicate legs during transport. For this reason, we prefer not to remove the actual specimen from its original protective packaging, as unnecessary unpacking and repacking would increase the risk of damage. All specimens are very similar in appearance and quality, while naturally presenting small individual variations. The dimensions indicated in the lot specifications refer specifically to the actual specimen offered for sale. DESCRIPTION: A remarkable and highly decorative marine specimen, ideal for natural history collections, Wunderkammer displays and collectors of unusual crustaceans. A fascinating specimen of Phalangipus hystrix, a distinctive marine spider crab characterized by its remarkably long and slender legs, small sculptured carapace, and delicate overall structure. Originating from Olango Island, Philippines, this species has an extraordinary appearance, with extremely elongated legs extending far beyond the central body and creating an impressive, almost geometric silhouette. The alternating natural markings along the legs and the detailed structure of the carapace make it particularly interesting as a marine natural history specimen. Due to the exceptional length and fragility of its appendages, specimens of this kind require particularly careful handling and packing.
