This original ink drawing by Louis Haché fully illustrates his work as a realistic comic strip artist, particularly developed during the first part of his career. Before dedicating himself more to painting, Haché worked as an illustrator, graphic designer and advertising artist, while collaborating on several comic publications, including Tintin, La Libre Belgique and Éditions du Lombard. The presented board testifies to this narrative approach. The succession of scenes builds a plot dominated by suspense and character observation, with alternation between close-ups, action sequences and everyday moments. The cinematographic framing of certain panels, notably the large face in the foreground and the encounter scenes in the two lower vignettes, gives the page a dynamic rhythm and reinforces the dramatic tension. The graphic work reveals Haché’s solid training as an illustrator. The characters are drawn with great anatomical precision and particular attention paid to postures, expressions, and clothing. The urban settings, buildings, vehicles and everyday elements are treated with a commitment to documentary realism that characterizes much of his graphic output. The use of Chinese ink, with its flat blacks, fine hatching and strong contrasts, plays here a crucial role in the construction of the image. The deep blacks help detach silhouettes and faces, while the numerous hatching lines add volume to clothing, architecture and backgrounds. This mastery of chiaroscuro gives the board a particularly expressive atmosphere and strengthens its realistic character. In 2025, several original boards by Louis Haché also entered the collections of the Museum of Comic Strip in Brussels, contributing to the patrimonial recognition of this Belgian artist whose career extended from comics to illustration and painting.
