Luxurious art deco bracelet with pearls & diamonds in platinum, around 1930

White jewellery defined the image of elegant jewellery for the evening not only in the Belle Époque, but also in Art Deco. In addition to diamonds, it was above all pearls that perfectly complemented the precious white metals, above all platinum. So it was a great sensation when full-round cultured pearls first became available on European markets in the 1920s. Matching perfect, full-round natural pearls of the same size and colour had once been very difficult, and jewellery designers were all the more enthusiastic about the new design possibilities opened up by Japanese cultured pearls. The present bracelet presents eight early cream-coloured cultured pearls as the treasures of each link. They are surrounded by transitional cut diamonds. A loop-shaped, three-dimensional element elegantly links each of the links. The entire bracelet has been crafted from platinum: A particularly modern choice at the time. It was not until the discovery of new platinum mines in the South African Transvaal in 1924 that exorbitant platinum prices approached the price of gold by the end of the 1930s, and noble pieces of solid platinum were created. Precious bracelets like this one were also a particular fashion of the Art Deco period: many Hollywood actresses of the time, including Norma Shearer and Anita Page, had several such bracelets photographed on their wrists. Antique jeweler's catalogues of the time also indicate that bracelets were worn side by side with preference. But even worn as a single piece, this bracelet will not fail to make an impact. We were able to discover it in Vienna; it is in excellent condition.
