RESERVE PRICE: €99 Artist’s manifest destined for posting, created by M/M (Paris), Philippe Parreno and Rirkrit Tiravanija as part of Utopia Station, a project presented at the 50th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2003. Utopia Station was an important collaborative and interdisciplinary project curated by Molly Nesbit, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Rirkrit Tiravanija, conceived as an open space for meeting, discussion and artistic production around the concept of utopia. As part of the project, a series of 139 different artist’s manifests was produced, to which the exemplar offered here belongs. This manifesto comes from the series produced on thin-card paper, loose-leaf, intended for posting within the exhibition. The composition, of strong visual impact, combines graphics, photography, popular culture and commercial references on an intense red-orange background. In the center is a figure inspired by cartoon imagery atop a bottle, accompanied by the title: “LA BATALLA DE LOS PATOS” On the lower margin is printed the inscription: “M/M and Philippe Parreno and Rirkrit Tiravanija / 50. Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte – la Biennale di Venezia” which directly identifies the authors and the work’s link to the Biennale. This is therefore not a decorative reproduction, but an artist’s manifesto produced for Utopia Station and intended for posting within the 2003 Venice Biennale exhibition.
