Royal Academy of Surgery – Mémoires on the subjects proposed for the prizes of the Royal Academy of Surgery, new edition with notes, Paris, Ménard and Desenne fils, 1819. Set of 4 volumes/parts, including notably volumes IV and V in the first and second parts. Important publication gathering the memoirs devoted to the different fields of surgery and to the works submitted for prizes of the Royal Academy of Surgery. This 1819 edition is bibliographically listed as 5 volumes spread over 7 parts. A.-A.-L.-M. Velpeau – Oral clinical lectures given at the Charity Hospital, Paris, Germer Baillière, 1841. Volumes II and III, collected and published respectively by Gustave Jeanselme and Dr. P. Pavillon. These volumes cover notably fractures, ankyloses, fistulas, surgical gynecological conditions, abscesses, cancers, amputations, dislocations and various clinical surgical observations. Volume III notably includes the summary of the surgical clinic of 1839-1840. The edition is well catalogued as three volumes, published in 1840-1841. The 4 volumes of 1819 are bound in half-green bindings with gilt titles and volume numbers. The 2 Velpeau volumes feature beautiful old brown bindings, backs ornamented with raised bands and gilt titles. Very good overall condition for works over 180 to 200 years old. Bindings solid and interiors well preserved. Foxing, browning and small signs of use present. A substantial tear without loss is visible on a page of Volume V and photographed. Set sold in accordance with the numerous detailed photographs.
