Magnificent Ayoka pearl necklace with antique gold locket, circa 1870 & later

This unusual necklace connects generations. The magnificent, large gold centerpiece shimmers warmly. Three letters of blue, red and green enamel form an intertwined monogram: "EFI". The oval bearing the monogram can be opened up: It is the lid of a medallion compartment. The back of the lid is closed by a glass. It is protected by a fine weave of brown hair. On the right and left, wide gold clasps connect three strands of warmly shimmering Akoya pearls. The pearls have a very good lustre throughout and a rosy overlay. They are quite uniform in size, some of them with a very baroque shape: Some of the individual pearls are teardrop-shaped, while others have a wavy surface. This gives the necklace a certain liveliness. As the luster and colour of the pearls match each other wonderfully, the necklace still retains a uniform impression. We were able to purchase the necklace as it is here in Berlin. The locket in the center was created in the 19th century, in the 1860s or 1870s. The locket was later converted into a necklace. It is very likely that the locket was originally the center of a bracelet, and the two golden clasps, which today lead to the pearls, were attached to the locket on the right and left in the middle. Today, they are slightly offset upwards so that the necklace fits better around the neck and does not tilt. The modification probably took place in the 1980s or 1990s. Our goldsmiths are happy to shorten the pearl strands free of charge according to your wishes in order to give the necklace the perfect fit.
