Magnificent brooch with emerald & diamonds from antique elements

The older a piece of jewellery is, the more likely it is that a previous owner will have had it altered or personalized. This was common practice in past centuries in particular, as gemstones were still more expensive and the world was not as interconnected as it is today, meaning that older pieces were repeatedly reworked and adapted to the tastes of the time. Heirlooms were often split up and reforged into several pieces. This brooch tells such a story. It is made of high-carat gold and has a transverse shape. Its center is occupied by a laurel wreath, in the middle of which a natural emerald glows an intense green. Shimmering diamonds sparkle to the right and left of the emerald and are suspended beneath the golden arches. The brooch was probably created as the centerpiece of a necklace. A movable pendulum was once suspended in its center. This was replaced by the emerald around two generations later. In addition to the existing old-cut diamonds, brilliant-cut diamonds were added to enrich the pieces of jewellery with their white sparkle. A pin on the back was also added, turning the arrangement into a brooch. The result is extremely harmonious and magnificent. The brooch combines different layers of time into a successful whole!
