Maison FENOUX

Stunning and authentic ladies' casket (jewelry box or travel necessaire) from the 19th century, made by the prestigious Fenoux house, a luxury trunk maker located under the galleries of the Palais-Royal in Paris (Nos. 119, 120 and 121). This display piece testifies to the refinement of Parisian leather goods during the Louis-Philippe / Napoleon III era (circa 1850-1870). Noble wood construction fully veneered in brown/burgundy leather with an elegantly curved (undulating) shape. The lid is adorned with corner escutcheons in finely engraved silvered and gilded metal, a central appliqué plate depicting a bouquet of daisies, and a relief butterfly motif on the leather. Interior: Remarkable original turquoise blue silk (or satin) button-tufted lining, preserved in exceptional condition for its age. • Signature: Original stamp printed in gold letters beneath the box: “FENOUX. 119. 120 et 121. PALAIS ROYAL”. Nice overall period condition with a superb patina from use on the leather, noting slight cracks and a stain in the front-right corner. The blue interior buttoning is clean. Original lock present, as well as its key which turns a 1/2 turn but does not operate (I did not dare to force it).
