Malven “Marvelous” Mangena (1970-2021) - Afrikaans dorpsgezicht

Beautiful village scene, cheerful painting. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Malven “Marvelous” Mangena learned sign painting from his father. Later Malven also engaged in various more “free” art forms. Malven Mangena’s work is also in the collection of Felix Valk. Felix Valk was a leading gallery owner in Arnhem and director of the Museum for the Land and People in Rotterdam. His legacy includes works by internationally renowned artists. These include Aboudraman (1961) from Ivory Coast, Willie Bester (1956) from South Africa, Romuald Hazoumé (1962) from Benin, Mickaél Bethe-Sélassié (1951) from Ethiopia, and Twin Seven Sevwen (1944) from Nigeria. Valk’s collection is housed entirely at the Africa Museum in Berg en Dal. There it is a welcome addition to the more traditional collection. Framing size: 54 x 38 cm Artwork size: 51.5 x 35.5 cm
