Marbrerie d'Art L.C. Saint-Étienne - Bookends (2) - Gilt bronze

Elegant pair of decorative bookends from the Marbrerie d'Art L.C. Saint-Étienne (label on the object) representing two stylized peacocks, each resting on a rectangular base of light-veined black marble. The birds display fine detailing, especially in the plumage, wings, and long tails, finely chiseled. The metal has an antique bronze patina, with pretty gold contrasts on the raised relief areas. The two pieces are designed as a matching pair and form a particularly decorative set, characteristic of Art Deco / mid-20th century taste.
