Description & Comparative Assessment This exceptional hollow-cast bronze tintinnabulum belongs to the medieval tradition of spherical crotal bells, distinguished by its compact globular body, substantial integral suspension loop and intersecting sound slits in the lower hemisphere. Broad circumferential bands articulate the body, while surviving concentric incised lines provide restrained geometric ornament. Closely comparable medieval bronze crotal bells dated to the 12th–15th centuries appear in specialist antiquities catalogues, including examples measuring 27 × 22 mm and 31 × 24 mm—remarkably close to the present 28.43 × 20.49 mm piece. NumisBids Museum terminology likewise identifies hollow-cast spherical bells with integral suspension rings as crotals. British Museum Its complete suspension system, strongly preserved silhouette, resonant hollow construction and attractive archaeological surface make this a particularly distinctive example of medieval portable sound-producing metalwork. Information The object has been documented using high-resolution imaging equipment, with its physical structure and form left entirely unaltered; only limited color-balance adjustments have been applied to ensure visual accuracy. As high-resolution imagery may influence the perception of scale, the photographs should always be considered together with the stated measurements. Statements concerning dating, intended function and material identification represent academic assessments based on typological analysis, comparative museum material and expert opinion; more definitive identification would require direct physical and, where appropriate, laboratory examination. The presentation and sale of this object are conducted in accordance with principles of transparency, scholarly consistency and good faith, and no object is knowingly presented as a copy or imitation. Upon request prior to shipment, a signed ownership document issued in the buyer's name may also be provided. If requested prior to dispatch, the Cultural and Archaeological Assessment Certificate will be prepared as a physical hard copy and included with the shipment.
