Wear a piece of history, not just jewelry. Rare Jewish Women’s Ring — Shabbat Tradition with the Zayin Symbol Object Details Culture: Jewish / Proposed Cultural Identification Period: Medieval Period ca. 13th–15th Century AD Material: Bronze Technique: Incised Engraving with a Geometric Border Iconography: Single Bezel Mark Interpreted as Hebrew Zayin (ז); Symbolic Association with Shabbat Dimensions Ring Height: 14.11 mm ± Outer Diameter: 14.31 mm ± Inner Diameter: 12.71 mm ± Weight: 0.59 g Ring Size Conversion Chart EU: approximately 40 US: approximately 1¼ UK: approximately B¾ Description This miniature bronze ring features a slender hoop and an angular bezel framed by repeated triangular impressions. The deeply incised central sign is interpreted as the Hebrew letter Zayin (ז), creating a distinctive epigraphic focus. Its small dimensions suggest use on a slender finger, while brown and green surface tones highlight the engraved decoration. In Jewish symbolic interpretation, Zayin carries the numerical value seven and is associated with Shabbat, the seventh day of the week. This connection places the proposed letter reading within a tradition of sacred time, rest and spiritual renewal; it offers a symbolic context for the ring rather than establishing a ceremonial function. Within this reading, the small engraved sign evokes the arrival of Shabbat: everyday labour pauses, the household gathers, and kedushah, holiness, gives the seventh day its distinctive character. These assessments are not definitive laboratory findings; more conclusive identification may require further examination and appropriate analysis beyond the scope of the sale.
