Background Information: This pair of bronze finger rings dates to the medieval Crusader period and belongs to a widely distributed group of personal ornaments produced between the 11th and 14th centuries. Both rings feature integral bezels with plain, rounded faces and subtly moulded shoulders. One ring retains simple incised decoration on the shoulders, while the other displays a restrained stepped transition between bezel and hoop, reflecting the practical yet carefully executed design typical of medieval jewellery. Bronze rings of this type were worn by men and women throughout the Crusader States and the wider medieval eastern Mediterranean. They served as everyday personal adornments and could also express individual identity or social standing. While precious metal rings were reserved for wealthier members of society, bronze examples were durable, affordable, and widely used by merchants, craftsmen, pilgrims, soldiers, and local inhabitants. The rings were cast in bronze and finished by hand, with the bezels shaped and the decorative details engraved after casting. Their manufacture reflects the established traditions of medieval metalworking, in which local workshops produced functional jewellery alongside more elaborate ceremonial pieces. Comparable examples have been recovered from archaeological sites across the Levant, Anatolia, and Europe, illustrating the exchange of artistic styles and craftsmanship through trade, pilgrimage, and the Crusades. Dating to the 11th–14th century, these rings provide a direct and tangible connection to the medieval world, where such objects formed an integral part of everyday dress and accompanied their owners throughout daily life in the culturally diverse societies of the Crusader period."
