Meissen – Plato estilo Kakiemon “Roca y pájaro” (Fels und Vogel)

DESCRIPTION: Meissen and the Kakiemon Meissen porcelain plate, made in the Neuer Ausschnitt form (wavy and lobed edge), with multicolored decoration in the Kakiemon style and the motif “Fels und Vogel” (Rock and Bird). Japanese Kakiemon porcelain exerted an important influence on Meissen production from the early 18th century. Its decorative language is characterized by asymmetric compositions, broad white porcelain surfaces and floral, vegetal, avian and nature elements represented with a vivid and balanced color palette. Meissen developed numerous European interpretations of these Japanese models. Among them is the repertoire known as “Fels und Vogel”, literally “Rock and Bird”, with representations of rock formations, birds and vegetal elements. Meissen developed this decorative repertoire in the 18th century, especially associated with Johann Gregorius Höroldt. The motif “Fels und Vogel” is documented at Meissen since the 1720s and was later recovered and reproduced by the manufactory in different periods, forming part of its historicist tradition. THE PLATE The decoration on the plate presented here is hand-painted, with polychromy applied in blue, green, yellow, red, pink and purple, leaving broad areas of white porcelain, characteristic of the Kakiemon repertoire. It features an asymmetric composition on a white background, with a rock formation accompanied by vegetal elements and the bird motif, surrounded by stylized branches, leaves and flowers. The border features ornamental and vegetal decoration in red and is finished with a gold edge filet. On the base it preserves the mark of the crossed blue swords with pommel tips (Knaufschwerter). Alongside the main mark are two small marks stamped or incised, of numerals/alphanumeric appearance, whose reading and identification could not be determined with certainty. 2. CONDITION Excellent condition. The piece shows excellent conservation, with no cracks, breaks, chips or restorations appreciable in the photographs. The polychrome decoration remains intense and well-defined. The gold edge filet is also in magnificent condition, with minimal wear. 3. DIMENSIONS • Diameter: 17.5 cm • Height: 2.8 cm 4.
