Merced, California. $5 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 603. The Farmers & Merchants NB. Charter #10352. PMG Choice Fine 15. Even though this may be a weathered note in technical terms as reflected by the grade assigned. Bidders are nonetheless advised to treat the grade assigned by PMG as a secondary consideration as only 13 notes are presently recorded on the Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Merced (Charter# 10352) by the National Bank Note Census. Despite that figure, the astute collector would be keen to realize that these survivors are rarely ever traded. Whether it speaks to the desirability of California Nationals or the deceptive rarity of various banks that served the Central Valley, bidders are further advised that this may prove to be a rare opportunity in retrospect and one not to be missed by the collector looking to build the foundation of a great collection of California Nationals. Estimate: $600 - $800. Provenance: Ex. Eric Agnew Collection. Click here for certification details from PMG.
