Milan Knížák (1940) - Original in Acryl und Bleistift...

An expressive original in mixed media, acrylic and pencil on paper by Milan Knížák. In the bottom right there is the reference "1989-5" written in pencil. Provenance The work comes from the possession of Joachim Büchner, the then-director of the Sprengel Museum Hannover, to whom it was personally gifted by Milan Knížák. The original invitation to the Milan Knížák exhibition opening at the Sandmann+Haak Gallery in Hanover on November 2, 1991, where Joachim Büchner gave the opening speech, accompanies the artwork. About the work This expressive original piece by Milan Knížák from 1989 shows a dynamic, highly stylized human figure depicted in an unusual, almost dancer-like movement. The widely stretched arms, bent legs, and the curved body give the composition a pronounced sense of movement. The figure seems to hover between dance, jump, and acrobatic contortion. The work characteristically conveys Knížák’s experimental handling of form, color, and human movement. Framing: The artwork is mounted in a floating manner on Gruner linen in a acid-free mat, presented in a white wooden frame. The glazing consists of high-quality Plexiglas Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and low light reflection. Frame size: approx. 54 × 44 cm. About the artist – Milan Knížák Milan Knížák (born 1940 in Pilsen) is a Czech artist and counts among the significant representatives of experimental post-war European art. His versatile artistic oeuvre includes painting, drawing, sculpture, music, performance, and action art. In the 1960s, Knížák became known in particular for his experimental actions and his connection to the international Fluxus movement. His works often exceed the traditional boundaries between different art forms, combining spontaneous expressiveness with unusual image ideas. In addition to his performances, he developed an extensive pictorial body of work in which expressive figures, intense colors, and experimental compositions play an important role.
