Alla auktioner / Konst & Grafik / Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006) - La Benzinara
An exceptional, historic work with great commercial impact, realized with the technique of color lithography and offset, by the master of Pop Art and international Nouveau Réalisme, Mimmo Rotella (Catanzaro, 1918 - Milan, 2006). This genius work is titled "La benzinara", was created in 1974 and published by the renowned publishing house Edizioni Plura of Milan. The work portrays the iconic Italian actress Monica Vitti in her famous role in the film "Teresa la ladra" (1973). Rotella masterfully transposes her legendary language of urban décollage onto the graphic plate. Monica Vitti's magnetic smile and her vibrant red hair dominate the composition, surrounded by deep horizontal bands of saturated cobalt blue, bright yellow, and warm gold. The composition visually evokes the frayed layers of cinema posters that lined the streets of post-war Italy, capturing the essence of European pop culture and cinematic nostalgia. Technique Lithography and offset printing on fine cotton rag paper. Edition status: Hand-signed by the artist in the lower left corner and numbered 242/500. Publisher: Plura Edizioni, Milan (1974). Splendidly framed in an elegant minimalist natural wood frame that enhances the warm tones of the composition. The work is in excellent vintage condition. The color palette remains incredibly sharp, intense, and highly saturated, with no fading. The margins are perfectly preserved and the paper support is solid and stable. A historic piece of great value, ready to be displayed. Print size: 86.6 x 67 cm. A certificate of provenance and originality is attached. The lot will be adequately packed and shipped with contracted couriers and with online tracking. No shipments outside the European Community.
