MORBIHAN. LORIENT. 3 LETTERS: 2 business letters, addressed - Lot 142

MORBIHAN. LORIENT. 3 LETTERS: 2 business letters, addressed to RAYMOND & Company in BORDEAUX: LORIENT, June 6, 1774: “…One of our Chinese ships has already arrived. The others will not be long in coming, and I will gladly fulfill your order… I have sold only 16 ordinary pieces of your painted canvases this year...” + LORIENT, Nov. 20, 1780: “…You mention that, since you cannot make the trip to Brittany due to the two ships you are expecting from Mr. de GUICHEN’s convoy, you ask if I have any white fabrics left; I have none of any kind. As for the handkerchiefs, I still have a supply left…” + LORIENT (Morbihan) March 1, 1797. Letter from a Navy Captain addressed to the shipowner BEYLOT, a wine merchant in Libourne. Transliterated text: “…after spending 45 days at dock with a crew that is gnawing away at me from all sides—even more so with their words than with the cost to me, based on the amounts given in their pay—a delay of one day. I’m doing everything I can to calm them down, but it breaks my heart to see that you’re only looking out for your own interests. I am doing everything an honest captain can do for his shipowners…” He has just loaded the wine barrels on board. “He sold 7 barrels to the vessel LA RÉPUBLIQUE, payable in 15 days. He has found a shipment of salt or faux (salt). He asks that a reply be sent to the following address: Citizen CAVALIE, Innkeeper, to be delivered to me at the Château, Île d’Oléron.” 3 pages, in-8°
