The last Abbasid Caliph al-Mutawakkil III (1508-1516, again 1517) was moved from Cairo to Istanbul after Egypt was conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Selim I and the Mamluke Sultanate was eliminated; in the following years his trace and that of the entire dynasty (at latest by 1543) was lost.
