NECKER. Report to the King. January 1781. Paris: Printed by the King’s Printing Office, 1781. In-4, marbled sheepskin, smooth spine with decoration, red edges (contemporary binding). A genuine first edition, printed in a small number of copies and not sold commercially, published before the edition printed by the Royal Printing Office that same year. It is illustrated with a fold-out chart and two colored maps. This famous report on the state of the kingdom’s finances led to Necker’s dismissal from his post as Minister of Finance. The engraved portrait of Necker is missing. Scattered light foxing. Binding is scuffed, with a tear at the spine; the cardboard of the front cover is damaged at the inner hinge.
