ew York, New York. Original $5 Fr. 397a. Irving NB. Charter #1357. PMG About Uncirculated 55. Sheetmate to one of the other Original Series $5s on the Irving National Bank (Charter# 1357) offered in this auction. This example also offers a like-degree of exceptional eye appeal befitting the grade assigned by PMG alongside a comment for "Pinholes." Shared qualities such as bold signatures penned by Cashier John L. Jewett, (Jr.) and President John Castree and deftly engraved vignettes entitled Columbus in Sight of Land and America Presented to the Old World are noticed, but this view overlooks the magnificent level of detail expressed by the back design. Here an engraved adaptation of John Vanderlyn's masterwork entitled Landing of Columbus is brought to uncommon form by virtue of the material condition of this item which effortlessly showcases the skills of period engravers whose work brings life to even the smallest of details on a note that will soon stand distinct among those recorded on this bank by the National Bank Note Census. PMG comments "Pinholes." Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000. Click here for certification details from PMG.
