Alla auktioner / Mattor & Textilier / No reserve- Large Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug - Circa 1890 - 17
Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs No reserve- Large Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug - Circa 1890 Size: 17 ft 5 in x 13 ft 9 in (5.3 m x 4.19 m) Provenance: Property of a New York collector A grand nineteenth-century Sultanabad carpet with a warm terracotta ground, expansive central medallion, and loosely drawn floral ornament. Its generous scale allows the motifs to breathe, producing the bold yet relaxed character for which early Sultanabad carpets are especially admired. Measuring approximately 17 feet 5 inches by 13 feet 9 inches, it has the proportions needed for a substantial living room, dining room, gallery, or reception space. Its large size, powerful Persian drawing, and beautifully aged coloration give it considerable decorative and collecting importance. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #553 is in fair to good condition. The pile is mostly low, with areas showing varying degrees of wear. There are very old, minor scattered re-pilings throughout the rug. Both ends and both sides require securing by hand. The foundation shows no signs of dryness. The rug would benefit from professional cleaning to restore a fresh and attractive appearance.
