Alla auktioner / Mattor & Textilier / No Reserve - Vintage Isfahan Pictorial Rug, Persia, mid-20th century
Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs No Reserve - Vintage Isfahan Pictorial Rug, Persia, mid-20th century Size: 6 ft 2 in x 4 ft 4 in (1.87 m x 1.32 m) Provenance: Property of a Nashville collector A finely woven pictorial Isfahan rug demonstrating the Persian weaver’s ability to translate figurative imagery into the demanding medium of knotted pile. The composition should be understood not merely as decoration, but as a textile tableau in which color and individual knots function much like brushstrokes. Pictorial rugs occupy a fascinating position between fine art and textile art. Their quality depends on the accuracy of the drawing, the subtlety of shading, and the technical control required to create convincing figures, architecture, and perspective. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #405 is in fair to good condition. The pile is mostly full and even, with areas of scattered visible wear. Both ends are complete and hand-secured, and the sides are securely finished. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready. Please contact our rug experts at auction@nazmiyal.com or call us for any questions you may have at 212.545.8029. Please note that all lots are sold "AS IS. " Condition reports are given as a courtesy to our clients and shall not be deemed as a guarantee of the lot's condition, quality, and authenticity. The absence of a condition report does not imply the item is in perfect condition.
