NORTH AMERICAN SCHOOL. 20TH CENTURY. Back hug, 2000

Descriptio Black and white photographic print. Dimensions: 35 × 28 cm. This artistic photograph depicts a human figure seen from behind, with a bare torso and raised arms. Two hands emerge from the lower part of the composition and rest delicately on the back, suggesting an intimate embrace. The tight framing focuses attention on the body’s anatomy, highlighting the spine, shoulder blades, and muscular tension in the shoulders. The side lighting models the anatomical volumes and accentuates the natural textures of the skin, creating a striking contrast with the black background. The symmetrical arrangement of the hands and the open arms lend the image a remarkable compositional balance, transforming a gesture of physical contact into a representation of great plastic force and restrained sensuality. His visual language evokes the aesthetic of Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989), especially in his sculptural conception of the human body, his formal refinement, and his use of chiaroscuro, as well as the photographic sensibility of Herb Ritts (1952-2002), recognizable in his exaltation of anatomical forms and the elegance of his black and white compositions.
