NORTH AMERICAN SCHOOL. 20TH CENTURY. Revelation. 2000.

Descriptio Black and white photographic print. Dimensions: 38 × 25 cm. This artistic and experimental photograph presents a composition of striking visual intensity, featuring a human face partially obscured by a structure of horizontal bars, resembling a grate, while a large open hand occupies the foreground, its fingers extended towards the viewer. The image is notable for its tonal inversion, a technique akin to a photographic negative, which transforms the contours of the figures into luminous lines and lends the skin and metallic elements an almost spectral appearance. The figure’s gaze, visible through the bars, introduces a palpable psychological tension, while the outstretched hand establishes a direct connection with the observer, suggesting concepts such as isolation, identity, perception, and the desire for communication. The overlapping planes, the extreme contrasts between light and shadow, and the geometry of the structure create a composition with surreal resonances, in which the figurative elements acquire a symbolic dimension. His visual language shows affinities with the photographic investigations of Man Ray (1890-1976), especially in his experimentation with tonal inversion processes and the transformation of reality through technical means, as well as with the work of László Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946), in his exploration of light, transparencies, and geometric structures as fundamental elements of composition. These references constitute stylistic parallels and do not imply an attribution of authorship. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU.
