ORWAY. 1/4 Speciedaler, 1646. Christiania Mint. Christian IV. NGC EF Details--Cleaned. KM-cf. 10; Hede-12B; Sieg-11.2; NMD-89; Delzanno-108; Schou-42; Bruun-9538. Weight: 7.03 gms. Mintmaster: Peter Grüner, the Elder (PG). An attractive, patinated specimen with fine details. When Peter Grüner succeeded Anders Pedersen as mintmaster in Christiania in 1643, he initially only altered the appearance of the mintmark from a flower to a trefoil, but shortly thereafter added his initials, PG. On the present 1646 specimen, however, the date has simply been altered from 1643 without the addition of initials. This specimen is presumed to be unique in private ownership. Estimate: €5,000 - €6,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here.
