ORWAY. Krone (4 Mark), 1695. Christiania Mint. Christian V. NGC AU-53. Dav-3663; KM-148.1; Hede-55; Sieg-38; NMD-101; Schou-20; Bruun-10442. Weight: 21.73 gms. Mintmaster: Peter Grüner, the Younger (PG). A very presentable piece with a nice, deep cabinet toning. Excessively rare date and the very last coin minted at Christiania. In 1686, King Christian V ordered the relocation of the mint from Christiania to Kongsberg to save on silver transport costs, leading to the establishment of the Royal Norwegian Mint in the mining town that same year. However, the mint at Akershus Castle in Christiania was not shut down immediately. It was finally closed in 1695, as the mintmaster Peter Grüner was permitted to continue minting small coins there on a lease basis during the transition period. Estimate: €7,000 - €9,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer.
