Orfèvrerie Otto-Léonard Wiskemann - Coffee set (4)...

Beautiful tête-à-tête tea- or coffee-service from the well-known Belgian silversmith Wiskemann. Each piece is stamped with Wiskemann's master mark on the bottom. The set is in good condition and is still executed in the old, heavily silver-plated hotel silver quality. The set consists of: - a tea- or coffee pot - a milk jug - a sugar pot - a large tray with 2 handles Wiskemann is the most exclusive Belgian manufacturer of silver-plated objects. Otto-Leonard Wiskemann descends from an aristocratic German family of goldsmiths and jewelers. His career began with an internship at Christofle. After this internship he further improved Christofle’s process and settled in Brussels in 1872. In that period, Wiskemann produced the highest quality silvered white metal that was found worldwide. All pieces were handmade in the workshops in Brussels (Belgium) and Zurich (Switzerland). You will find an extract from the 1908 catalog among the photos of the workshops. Wiskemann sold his items not only in Galleries Innovation, the Belgian equivalent of Harrods or Lafayette at the time, but also in their own shop on the Avenue Louise and in their own shop in Zurich. Wiskemann received important international recognition, including the 'Medaille d'argent' in 1885 at the international competition in Antwerp, the 'Diplôme d'honneur' in Brussels (1897), twice the 'Grand Prix' in his category, respectively in Liège in 1905 and in Milan in 1906. In the culinary world and at the Culinary Contest, Wiskemann had already reached the top with gold medals and honorary diplomas in 1888, 1889, 1899, 1900, 1904 and 1905. The extensive list up to 1908 is found between the photos. The company was later continued by Otto and Albin Wiskemann, and then by Bruno Wiskemann. The Wolfers family (known from Philippe Wolfers and the Wolfers Frères - court supplier to the Belgian royal family) bought a majority of the company in that period. Later the Delheid family businesses were added to this group. This is a piece of Belgian history of excellent quality; it can be compared with Christofle, Robbe & Berking, Ercuis, Puiforcat, Wilkens, etc. The set is in good condition. The tray has some light irregularities. See photos for a good impression of this. Insured and careful shipping in appropriate (and if necessary double) packaging. By DPD to destinations within the European Union, by national mail (Bpost) to other destinations. The shipping costs apply to the mainland; for overseas territories and islands a surcharge may apply, unless the destination is separately listed in the shipping costs. A surcharge for customs formalities is already included in the stated shipping costs. Any import duties are the responsibility of the buyer.
