Oriental World of Images – large hand-knotted wall carpet

An extraordinary pictorial tapestry full of character: on a bright red ground, jugs, pitchers, bowls, vases, and scissors meet in a detailed, rhythmically constructed composition. Dark blue, cream, light blue, and golden-yellow accents give each motif its own presence. The visual language evokes the traditional everyday world of Afghanistan and its neighboring cultural regions: houses where guests are greeted with tea, carefully arranged vessels, and workshops where skilled hands attend to their work. Jugs and bowls recall hospitality and the shared meal; the scissors can be read as a nod to craft and textile work. This interpretation invites viewers to discover the motifs—not as a transmitted history of how this piece came into being. Particularly appealing is the interplay of repetition and small stylistic differences. The eye moves from one object to the next, continually discovering new shapes and color combinations. A geometric border surrounds the imagery, giving the rug a harmonious finish. With approximately 327 × 249 cm and an area of over eight square meters, this hand-knotted single piece possesses an impressive presence in a room. Its representational pattern makes it a striking focal point for generous living spaces and interiors with carefully chosen antiques, art, and classical furniture. The design remains within the tradition of historic Oriental pictorial carpets. An antique dating has not yet been documented. Region: Afghanistan; the exact knotting region is not documented. Manufacture: hand-knotted. Dimensions: approx. 327 × 249 cm. Condition: after inspection by the seller, in perfect, first-rate 1A condition. A striking rug for connoisseurs of traditional craftsmanship and unusual pictorial motifs. Please view the overall and detail photographs; they are part of the description.
