Impressive and sturdily designed pair of antique French 3-light wall sconces (appliques) made of cast and fire-gilt bronze, manufactured in France around 1890–1910 in the elegant Louis XVI style (Louis Seize). Style & Ornamentation This set of wall appliques is shaped with an eye for historical precision and refinement. The central shaft is neatly fluted and crowned by a classic, intricately detailed vase/urn with handles. From the center, three gracefully curved light arms flare out, richly decorated with acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and hanging garlands. The underside of the wall plate tapers and is finished with a refined acanthus-acroterion. Craftsmanship, Gilding & Details Fire-gilt bronze (Ormolu): The candelabras retain their original, authentic fire-gilding. In the deeper areas (such as around the garlands and vase details) the bright yellow-gold glow has been beautifully preserved. On the higher, protruding parts the gold shows a very subtle, characteristic wear from polishing and handling over the decades, allowing the warm bronze color to show through locally. Traditional sand-casting work: The hollow rear reveals the grainy texture of high-quality French sand-casting (font de sable). Assembly & Numbering: The components are artisanal assembled with authentic square nuts and threaded rods. On the back of both candelabras the historical inventory/gating number "195" is stamped/affixed, confirming their original togetherness as a pair. Massive quality: With a weight of about 1.8 kg per candelabrum, this is a solid, heavy casting of top quality. The wax catchers are ringed with original holes for optionally attaching crystal pendeloques/pampilles to taste. Condition The appliques are in very fine, original antique condition with a layered patina and minimal oxidation marks (verdigris) on the inside/back, appropriate for an age of more than 110 years. All mounts are sturdy and the light arms stand straight. A monumental and highly decorative ensemble that adds a rich, historic accent to a classic or modern interior and perfectly aligns with the theme of the "L’Art de Vivre" auction. Packaging & Shipping Careful packing: Given the excellent light arms, the candelabras are packed with utmost care. Each arm and wax catcher is individually protected with foam, after which the entire set is wrapped in ample bubble wrap and secured in a sturdy double-wall carton. Shipping: Sent by insured, tracked delivery with Track & Trace. Ps: three candle-drip holders have been found and are included. Ps: the first and last three photos were created with AI to evoke atmosphere.
