A bronze okimono depicting Ebisu (恵比寿), the Japanese deity of fishermen and good fortune, shown standing on a rock-shaped base. The figure is captured holding a large carp in his left hand, firmly grasped by the front fin. In his right hand, he raises a long gilt fishing rod; additional gilt details appear on the robe and in parts of the face, highlighting the volumes of the figure. Relief signature on the back. Total weight: 2.854 kg. Okimono (置物), combining the kanji "oki" (置き, to place) and "mono" (物, object), refers to a decorative object meant for display. Okimono, popular in the Meiji period (1868 - 1912), were finely crafted sculptures made from materials such as ivory, boxwood, wood, and bronze. ---The okimono is in good condition with slight signs of wear consistent with age.
