We present to you an original gouache on paper signed by the artist Pedro Huart (born 1938). This work firmly belongs to the Pop Art movement and Free Figuration. Attracted early on to art, he began by studying law and economics in his hometown before settling permanently in Paris in 1965. After a brief spell at the School of Fine Arts which he judged too academic, he developed a singular figurative style, strongly influenced by the folk traditions of his country of origin and by popular culture. In 1972, lacking the means to buy traditional canvases, he invented the concept of “floating murals”: vast acrylic paintings on loose canvases that could be transported and suspended in public space. This innovative approach brought him notice the following year at the VIII Paris Biennale. His pictorial work, colorful and imbued with a poetic imagination close to surrealism or comic art, revolves around varied themes such as intimate sofa scenes, musicians and the world of show business. Alongside painting, the artist also dedicates himself to photography, notably through experimental Polaroid series where he captures and reworks images from contemporary media. Today internationally recognized, his works are held in major public French collections, such as the Centre Pompidou and the Centre national des arts plastiques."
