Pair of rare Peugeot Frères Model A bench-top coffee grinders - Cast iron and wood - France - 1880-1910 Splendid pair of historic cast-iron bench-top coffee grinders produced by the renowned French manufacturer Peugeot Frères (Valentigney, Doubs), dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. This is the sought-after "Model A", characterized by the exposed external conical gear mechanism and a double-opening cap. The pair includes two different sizes (a larger for bench/grocery use, Model A2, and a smaller domestic model, Model A0), both featuring the characteristic and charming vintage green finish on the drawers. Technical details, dimensions and weights: Large Grinder (Model A2): Height: 30 cm Base: 16 x 15 cm (equipped with 3 wings/cleats to fix to the counter, each 2 cm) Weight: 3,637 grams Small Grinder (Model A0): Height: 26 cm Base: 12 x 13 cm (equipped with 3 wings/cleats to fix to the counter, each 1.5 cm) Weight: 2,171 grams Mechanics: Both grinders are perfectly functional. The gears turn smoothly and the internal grinding mechanisms are intact and operational. Construction: The cast iron is in excellent conserved condition, solid, free of cracks, breaks or welds. The raised inscriptions "Peugeot Frères" on the main body are splendid. The wooden knobs on the cranks and drawers are original. Small model: Retains the precious and original oval brass factory plate from Valentigney with the lion on the arrow. The wooden front panel shows a material loss and a notch on the upper inner side (a defect invisible when the drawer is closed, which does not compromise the front solidity). Large model: The wooden drawer is original to the period and still bears the old fixing nail on the left side; the brass plate has been lost over time. An excellent opportunity for collectors of industrial antiques or to furnish with authentic vintage charm coffeehouses, roasteries and high-end environments.
