Piero Tartaglia (1933-2008) - geo-metria – architetture...

Important original abstract composition by Piero Tartaglia, characterized by an intense geometric, chromatic and tactile research, in which architectural shapes, curved lines, overlapped surfaces and blocks of color fuse into a dynamic and articulated visual construction. The work stands out for a strongly expressive pictorial language, in which geometry does not represent a rigid structure, but becomes a tool for deconstructing, recomposing and transforming space. The composition is built through alternating vertical and diagonal elements, chromatic architectures, semicircles, arcuate structures and irregular shapes that intersect and overlap, generating a particular sense of movement and depth. The color palette is particularly rich and incisive: deep blue and ultramarine dialog with vermilion red, bright yellow, white, dark green, brown and ocher tones. These contrasts create a visually striking balance, in which colors take on a structural as well as expressive function. PARTICOLARE INTERESSE MATERICO One of the most interesting aspects of the painting is the treatment of the pictorial surface. The artist intervenes with substantial accumulations of color, overlays, spatulations and stratifications that give the canvas remarkable three-dimensionality. The white and yellow areas present particularly dense masses, with incisions, reliefs and gestural traces. The red and blue surfaces alternately feature more compact blocks with dynamic painterly passages, creating a continuous relationship between fills and voids, depth and surface, balance and disintegration. The presence of different thicknesses and consistencies turns the canvas into a true plastic construction, where color becomes matter and matter contributes to defining space. BIOGRAPHICAL FILE OF THE ARTIST PIERO TARTAGLIA (1933–2008) Piero Tartaglia was born in Civitavecchia on October 5, 1933 and died in Rome on May 1, 2008. He was an Italian painter and artistic researcher, recognized as the founder of the Disintegrazionismo movement. Since the 1950s he approached avant-garde circles and abstract and informal tendencies, developing a personal language characterized by the decomposition of forms, chromatic research and material experimentation. In 1951 he joined the avant-garde circle of the European Group, linked to prominent figures of European research, including Serge Poliakoff, Karel Appel, Corneille and Pierre Alechinsky. His artistic research progressively evolves toward a non-conventional conception of pictorial space, in which forms aggregate, fragment and recombine according to dynamic and architectural equilibria. Disgregazionismo, the movement he founded, is characterized by the use of irregular geometries, intense chromatic contrasts, overlaps and material experiments. Painting thus becomes a field of continuous transformation, where color, matter and structure participate in constructing a new visual dimension. Throughout his career Tartaglia developed a personal artistic production, exhibiting in various venues and receiving recognitions for his artistic research. His work represents an autonomous path within Italian abstraction of the late twentieth century. Artwork coming from a stock of paintings purchased directly from the gallery by the father of the current owner. CONDITION REPORT The work is overall in good conservational condition, with a pictorial surface rich in reliefs and original stratifications. There are two small imperfections: - two tiny chips on the upper edge of the canvas, at the junction between the white and blue fields. - A slight superficial imperfection located in the central area of the composition, visible near the light painterly masses. Both are limited in extent and have been documented photographically to ensure maximum transparency in describing the condition of the work.
