Pietro Melandri & Umberto Focaccia - Vase - Ceramic

An exceptional and highly collectible Italian Art Deco maiolica aiguière (handled pitcher), hand-painted at the prestigious Melandri & Focaccia workshop in Faenza, Italy. This piece dates precisely to the historic partnership period between master ceramicist Pietro Melandri and industrialist Umberto Focaccia (active 1922–1931), utilizing the former Minardi kiln facilities. Design & Aesthetics: The elegant, elongated ovoid body stands gracefully on a flared foot. The entire white-glazed surface is covered in dense, hand-painted golden-yellow/ochre volutes and scrollwork, seamlessly integrated with striking dark circular spot motifs. The piece features a magnificent structural contrast: a high-looping handle finished in a vibrant, glossy green lacquer style, accented with matching bold polka dots. This whimsical blend of classical amphora shapes with vanguard geometric patterning captures the height of the Italian Futurist and Art Deco transition period led by Melandri. Markings: The base features the authentic hand-painted signature mark: "M [Conjoined MF Monogram Cipher in a Circle] Faenza", executed in golden glaze.
