Polinices aurantius (40 mm

Scientific name: Polinices aurantius (Röding, 1798) – belongs to the family of moon snails (Naticidae); in German-speaking regions known as the Golden Moon Snail, Orange Navel Snail, or Fleming Moon Snail. Origin & Localities: Central Philippines; this exquisite piece comes from the clean sandy and coral reef areas around the island of Cebu, world-renowned for its vibrant colored marine specimens. Habitat: Pure sandy substrates in the intertidal zone down to shallow reefs at about 5 to 20 meters depth. As a predatory snail, the animal actively pores through the seabed in search of other mollusks and gastropods. Size & Condition: 40 mm – a notable, well above-average size for this species (while most pieces on the market measure around 20–30 mm, a 40 mm specimen already ranks among the major collectors’ highlights). Condition GEM (Flawless museum quality: completely undamaged, rounded outer edge, smooth and highly glossy, saffron to golden-orange shell with no dull spots, white umbilical region, and perfect callus).
