Proferio Grossi (Parma, 1923 – Milan, 2000), Italian artist of national significance, former member of the prestigious MAC (Movimento Arte Concreta). Oil on panel (masonite), “Still Life,” created in 1989, a unique work. Height 70 cm x Width 50 cm (dimensions of the painted panel only, without the frame). Overall dimensions with the frame: Height 91 cm x Width 71 cm x Depth about 4 cm. Signed and dated in oil by the artist on the lower right front: “Proferio Grossi 1989.” Also the autograph signature, the dating and the location handwritten by the author on the back: “Proferio Grossi / Milano 1989.” Provenance: Italian private collection. The painted panel is in excellent overall condition, with vivid, stable colors and a perfectly intact support. The large gilded frame with mat is included in the lot as a gift; it shows some slight aesthetic defects and small signs of time that do not prejudice the overall aesthetics of the work (please view details carefully in the photos). The work will be shipped mounted on panel and framed (ready to hang). Professional custom packaging will be provided. Shipping will be fully trackable and insured. The work is sold and shipped exclusively within European Union countries. SHIPMENTS TO NON-EU COUNTRIES ARE NOT MADE TO AVOID DELAYS OR BLOCKS RELATED TO CUSTOMS PROCEDURES. Proferio Grossi, after the initial geometric abstract experience of the 1940s, established himself as one of the most refined interpreters of trompe-l’œil and hyperrealist still life in Italy. This 1989 composition stands out for the complexity of the described elements (fruit, metals, books, enameled cup) and for the suggestive “picture within a picture” insertion in the background, a perceptive and surreal element that elevates the collectible appeal of the work.
