Purdon, Texas. $10 1929 Ty. 1. Fr. 1801-1. First NB. Charter #10927. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20 Details. Stains. Named for the likes of Miss Ada Purdom, the community named in her memory nonetheless ended up with the name "Purdon" as a result of a clerical error that went unnoticed. Like many rural towns in Texas that were settled in the 1880s and 1890s, the formation of a National Bank followed in short order and the First National Bank (Charter# 10927) was organized in 1916 and managed to linger past 1935 after National Bank Notes were discontinued. Yet a curious phenomenon is noticed for the recorded population on this particular institution. Most of the eight non-institutional notes recorded here by the National Bank Note Census represent the Series of 1902 whereas only two pieces are recorded for the Series of 1929. Now this lot offers bidders the opportunity to consider one of those two pieces making this a rare opportunity as the last verifiable appearance we can trace before 2024 dates back to 2014 when Copeland presumably acquired this note for his personal holdings. PCGS Banknote comments "Stains." Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
